Connecting Students to Tomorrow's ICT Jobs and Careers

To better understand the factors influencing career choices, the Conference Board conducted a survey among secondary level students, their parents, and their guidance counsellors. The survey—a first of its kind in the world—allows to find better solutions to the labour shortage in ICT.

In the context of a public study on the state-of-affairs of the Montreal ICT cluster, the Coalition submitted a brief advocating the expansion of TechnoMontréal. A member of the Coalition, TechnoMontréal is proposing to position Montreal as a centre of creativity and innovation in order to encourage ICT businesses, along with talented employees, to settle in Montreal.

IT enrolments and retention: situation report

The IT labour market is under pressure, and increasingly so. Demand is increasing. Baby boomers are beginning to retire. Post-secondary enrollments in IT and related programs have dropped dramatically over the past five years. Increased reliance on immigrants and offshoring will help but it is not enough. This report focuses on proposed action steps for addressing the enrollments challenge and how to understand the situation.
